David Hollander

David Michael Hollander has been practicing yoga since the 1980's and teaching since 1994 in New York City. Originally working in an Iyengar-influenced style learned from his long time teacher Michael Gilbert, he began to practice and teach Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga after meeting Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Traveling to Mysore, India on numerous trips, David also commenced studies with B.N.S. Iyengar and his student Sri Sheshadri, as well as many other beautiful teachers representing the larger Mysore Yoga Tradition. David is also a student of Sanskrit, philosophy, meditation, painting, drawing and kirtan. He is director of teacher training at Ananda Ashram in Monroe, NY and teaches daily Mysore-style Ashtanga Vinyasa classes, as well as teacher training programs at Pure Yoga, NY. Teaching Mysore-style Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga allows David to help each student at his or her own level and according to each person's individual needs. The set series postures and vinyasas serve as a launching point into deeper levels of practice. The open format allows for variations in the tradition of Sri Krishnamacharya's vinyasa krama to be given. Contemplation and meditation practice in the light of Sri. Brahmananda Sarasvati's teachings are also offered individually to students as a way to deepen their practice. David wants to thank all of his many teachers and guides along the path including Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, B.N.S. Iyengar, Sri Sheshadri, Manju Jois, Dr V. Nagaraj, Joan Suval, Sri Dharma Mittra, Sri Chinmoy, Allison West, Jyoti Chittur, Shyamdas and most especially his dear students from he has received more than he could ever return. For more about David, visit: sunandmoonarts.com
